Awild Mind's debut single, Boys of the Choir, struck a pre Christmas chord on its release in November 2024. Its heartfelt narrative, mainly communicated via spoken word passages, was uplifting without being cloying or sentimental. One reviewer likened it to Irish musical legends Whipping Boy and their track Bettyclean and added: "There might something in this for Damien Dempsey fans but the Clare based Awild Mind should strike deep into Fontaines D.C. territory too. Thrilling but practised in a most pleasing of tempered ways at the same time."
With second single Solitude, Awild Mind builds on their debut with a sonically rich and emotionally layered track pulsing with a restrained intensity and a motorik hypnotic groove.
The track's foundation is in the rock solid drums and slightly funky bassline creating bright, breathable air for country tinged guitar and subtle synths. The production (again by Martin Quinn at Jam Studios) oozes analog warmth - a nod to early Phoenix or The Strokes.
